Finally, the family of Apagun Oluwole Olumide conceded to the request of the Ogun State Government to have an autopsy carried out on the late businessman, resulting in a late afternoon burial of the businessman.
After an altercation that lasted about two hours with policemen from the Ogun State Police Command, acting on the orders of the state government, the family agreed to have the autopsy carried out.
The police team was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Joel Eye.
Owing to the controversy surrounding the death of Olumide, who was found dead in the artifical lake of the Golf Resort Hotel, Abeokuta, the state government insisted on an autopsy while the family saw no need for it.
This led to the altercation between the family and the police this morning at the mortuary where the remains of Olumide was kept, the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
The result of the autopsy had not been made public as at press time.
After the autopsy, the remains of Olumide left the hospital at about 2.15pm.
The remains, accompanied by a long convoy, arrived at his Abeokuta residence at about 2:55pm.
Among those at the burial were Olumide’s ally and former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; another business associate of the late Olumide and the Chairman, Western Publishing Company Limited, Aare Kola Oyefeso; a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN); a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Sarafa Isola; a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kayode Amusan; Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello; and a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Chief Tunji Alapini.
Olumide was discovered dead at the artificial lake of the Golf Resort Hotel on Friday night after he was left there for a while by his driver.
His corpse was eventually retrieved from the lake on Saturday morning at 9:02am.
