Major General Ebi Awal, the GOC 3, Mechanized Division, Jos, Plateau State, has assured Nigerians that the military would not relent on its efforts until total peace was restored to Yobe State.
Giving the assurance on Thursday in Damaturu when he visited Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, the Commander said although the security situation in the state had improved, his men would remain on the alert.
He commended the Yobe State Government for supporting security operatives in the state, adding: “The collaborative efforts between security operatives and Yobe government, had contributed to checking the tide of insurgency in the state.”
Awal then called on the people of the state to contribute their quota towards ensuring that ever-lasting peace returned to Yobe State.
Receiving the Commander, Gaidam assured him of his administration’s continued support to security operatives to sustain the achievements recorded in the effort at restoring peace.
“In spite of the state’s lean financial resources, government would continue to provide the necessary support to security operatives to sustain the gains achieved in maintenance of peace and security in the state,” he said.
The governor however stated that the state government expended over N270 million monthly on security matters, thereby affecting efforts at providing social amenities to the people.
He therefore appealed to the Federal Government to assist the state with a special intervention fund.
