A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has hailed former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 76th birthday anniversary.
In a statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, Kalu thanked God for the life of Chief Obasanjo.
He described Obasanjo as an outstanding elder statesman and a living legend whose achievements in and out of office and contributions to Nigeria should be celebrated and emulated by leaders.
He said Baba, as Obasanjo is fondly called, is a courageous and bold leader who is ready to damn any consequence for the sake of peace and unity in our fatherland.
His peace initiatives at all levels has played a dominant role in holding the North, South, West and East together, Kalu said, adding: “In short, he is a bridge builder.
“His participation in peace missions in the African region has promoted bilateral and multi lateral relations between Nigeria and the outside world.”
Dr. Kalu urged Obasanjo not to relent in his efforts at ensuring Nigeria remains indivisible despite the challenges and prayed for long life and posterity for the former president.
He also congratulated Obasanjo on the recent launch of Obasanjo Foundation, an initiative he described as timely, coming at a time the government needs the support of philanthropist in meeting the unending needs of the teeming population.
So also has Kalu, who is the Publisher of Sun newspapers, congratulated the newly-elected President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Femi Adesina.
Kalu described Adesina’s victory as well deserved owing to his years of service and contribution to the media profession.
He said in the statement by Oyewumi: “With my working relationship with Mr. Adesina as the Deputy Managing Director and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Sun newspaper, I am confident that he is the right man for the job.
“He has the intellect, wisdom, understanding and contact to add value to the professional body in particular and the society in general.”
Kalu stated further that he Knows Adesina as a firm believer of the principles and ethics of journalism, adding: “There is no doubt that such a person armed with this attitude will perform on this tasking and noble assignment.”
In another development, Kalu has commiserated with the Senate, The Guardian newspaper, the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the family of John-Abba Ogbodo of The Guardian newspaper, who died in a car crash.
He said: “I received with shock the death of this young, promising and energetic journalist who has contributed to the Nigeria polity through his media profession.”
He noted that Ogbodo died in the course of his duty and will forever be remembered as a passionate and committed journalist, who believes in hard work.
Dr. Kalu prayed that God almighty will console his family and loved ones he left behind.
He also prayed for the quick recovery of other survivors of the clash, who are receiving treatment.
