Ten-year-old Wisdom Nze on Saturday defeated eight-year-old younger brother Daniel 3-2 in the final of the 2018 edition of the Ex-Squash Pro Tournament in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Daniel had defeated Wisdom in the final of the Sunfit U-13 Championships on April 14.
Speaking after Saturday’s loss, Daniel told NAN that he lost concentration due to fatigue.
NAN reports that Daniel had an early lead in the game.
He said: “I believe the game could have gone either way. We both played very well, and I thought I was going to win at some point.
“I got tired and fatigue set in. I started well but I lost concentration. However, I’m happy my brother won. Our game has always been tough, and this wasn’t any different.”
NAN reports that spectators were treated to a fantastic game, and even the best gambler would have been confused about who to bet his money on.
Wisdom later told NAN that he knew he had to stay focused, in order to maintain his lead in the game.
He said: “I knew my brother was getting tired, so I had to stay focused and ensure that I got my shots right.
“He defeated me a few weeks ago. So, this was just like a payback. But the truth is that it could have gone either way.
“However, I’m happy I won. I would have been happy still if I didn’t win, but everybody likes to win. So, it feels good.”
In the girls under-13 category, 10-year-old Mistura Durosinlorun defeated 12-year-old Chidinma Orji 3-0.
The chief organiser of the event, Yusuf Durosinlorun, later told NAN that squash equipment and kits would be given to the victorious
players.
