Former Nigerian international, Shola Ameobi, is currently without a club but his final act at Bolton has won him a goal of the month award.
The former Newcastle striker helped Bolton to a 3-1 win, which has now sparked a three game unbeaten run in the league, with Saturday’s win over Rotherham making it seven points from nine.
Which means that remarkably the Trotters now have a decent chance of escaping the relegation zone as they are now only three points from safety.
That final contribution has now seen Ameobi pick up the goal of the month as voted by Bolton fans at the Burnden Aces website.
Due to their shocking financial plight at the Lancashire club, Ameobi offered to play for the rest of the season for nothing.
However, a strict transfer embargo prevents Bolton registering any new contracts with the Football League, even when players are offering to play for free.
With Ameobi being a free agent and if he hadn’t found a new club in the meantime, he could be allowed to return to Bolton and play.
