Former Arsenal man, Park Chu-Young, was unable to prevent South Korea from slipping to defeat against Algeria, who were powered by Tottenham’s midfield enforcer, Nabil Bentaleb, with Islam Slimani also playing a key role in the World Cup Group H clash.
Both teams started brightly but it was Slimani who put his side on top after 25 minutes with a smart finish.
Just three minutes later, Rafik Halliche smashed home a header for his side to put them two to the good.
Abdelmoumene Djabou put Algeria in dreamland after 38 minutes, powering in a third before Son Heung-min pulled one back for South Korea in the 49th minute.
Algeria then put the game beyond doubt when they grabbed a fourth goal in the 61st minute, but were made to sweat when Koo Ja-cheol nabbed a second for his side.
Korea pushed on for a third but were unable to find a way past Algeria’s resilient back-line.
The result sees Algeria move into second, two points above Russia, and a win over Fabio Capello’s side in their final match will see them progress to the next round.
Korea remains rooted to the bottom of the table, and will be hoping for a miracle to get past Belgium in their final match.
