Consequently, he has directed members of the police force to stop movement of corpses without proper medical and police reports into the state to check the spread of Ebola disease.
Chief Akpabio who stated this Monday when the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Gabriel Achong, paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Uyo, said since no one even the police was not safe with the deadly Ebola virus, it was necessary to take precautionary measures to stop the spread of the disease.
On the forthcoming PDP governorship primaries in the state, the Governor pledged to provide a level-playing ground for all governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom, and urged more persons to aspire for the office of Governor to showcase the beauty of democracy.
He, however, announced that PDP would soon convene a meeting for all aspirants in the state who are contesting for the governorship position by 2015 to sign and abide by a code of conduct for a peaceful, free and fair elections.
“A meeting would soon be convened summoning all aspirants in the stat that are contesting for the governorship seat by 2015 to sign a code of conduct for a peaceful, free and fair elections.
“The primaries would be open for all and sundry, who wants to contest and more aspirants who are willing to contest for the governorship seat are welcome. We would make sure the elections would be free and fair”, he said.
Congratulating the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Akpabio remarked, “I must thank President Jonathan for the appointment and for approving him to serve in the state, because we needed someone who is familiar with the terrain of the state. Policing should be given to those who are familiar with the nooks and crannies of the state.
“Gabriel Achong is the best commissioner of police in the country today, you have the required arrangements and strategies to police the state, God used you through your various services to the state since 1992 to train you for this position, so what we require from you is the sustainability of the current security tempo in the state”, the Governor asserted.
Akpabio, who commended the police for securing the people in the state, called on the entire police force to support the new Commissioner of Police, urging them to remain stedfast and strategise new ways to curb crimes.
On request for provision of more vehicles to the police, he assured to replace the old vehicles and provide new ones to enable them to adequately curb crimes particularly during the elections period.
Speaking earlier, the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Achong had said the purpose of the visit was to thank the state Governor for supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the state, and pledged his total loyalty to the transformation agenda of the state government by consolidating security to attract investors to the state.
