Fans who wish to watch the African Cup of Nations qualifying match between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt have been offered free viewing on a giant TV screen to be mounted at the National Stadium. This was announced by the organisers of GOtv Boxing Night in Lagos on Friday.
Jenkins Alumona, CEO of Flykite Productions, promoters of GOtv Boxing Night, explained that the gesture is to enable fans provide support the for the Eagles in their quest to secure a ticket to Africa’s biggest football event.
“The match will be played a few hours before GOtv Boxing Night, which holds on the same day. It is our view that the Eagles need the support of all Nigerians and we are offering an avenue for the enjoyment of the match as well as support for the national team.
“We are inviting fans to come and watch on high resolution big TV screen, after which they can continue having more sporting excitement at GOtv Boxing Night 6,” said Alumona.
GOtv Boxing Night 6 will feature six professional fights, the pick of which is the West African middleweight title bout between Nigeria’s Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed and Ghana’s Adjei Sowah.
In the other title fight, Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi will fight Djamiou Ekekpo of the Republic of Benin for the West African light welterweight title. The event will also see Hogan Jimoh Jnr., son of boxing legend, Hogan Jimoh, take on Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph in a national lightweight challenge contest. Another fight in that division will pro debutants, Michael “Show” Roland take on Nwoye “Lion” Prince.
In the super middleweight category, Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna will slug it out with Yusuf “Koste” Moshood, while Saidi “Attacker” Lawal will take on Samuel “Godspower” Elegbede.
The best boxer on the night will go home with N1million and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
