Adamawa signs agreements with Dangote, three others on cement industries

Shanti Sashi, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, has confirmed that Dangote Group of Companies and three foreign firms have signed agreements to establish cement factories in the state.
Sashi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola on Monday that the agreements had been finalised.
She said: “We have signed agreements with Dangote Group of Companies and other three foreign companies and we are now looking for Federal Government’s licence.
“The state government has approved and we are waiting for federal certificate to hand over to the investors.”
According to the commissioner, the state has huge deposits of limestone and gypsum which, if explored, can last for over 100 years.
Sashi listed Dangote Group of Companies; Smart Group, a US-based firm; BTP Swiss International; and a Chinese firm as the companies that had expressed interest in the cement deal.
She said Adamawa State was one of the highly rich geographical areas in the world as far as mineral resources are concerned, adding: “There are no minerals in mineral Kingdom that is not found in the state.”
According to her, a team of geoscientists said the whole of the southern part of the state comprising Guyuk, Numan,Lamurde, Demsa, Mayo-Belwa, Jada, Ganye and Toungo Local Government Areas have limestone and gypsum deposits.
“We are also expecting the mineral resources exploration to create over 500,000 different jobs to our people,” Sashi said.
She said some of the companies would start mounting their plants before end of this year.
She said Dangote Group would establish its company in Guyuk.
The commissioner said the efforts were to ensure that the state government avoided depending on federal allocations.
She said: “The mineral resources we have in the state, if properly tapped, will be enough for us to develop and maintain our internally generated revenue for many years to come.”
Sashi said the state government would soon announce the details of the agreements for the people of the state to see and understand the benefits.
