Activist applies for Jonathan’s PhD records from University under FOI Act

The Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law has applied to the University of PortHarcourt, Choba, Rivers State for the PhD records of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonathan is standing for re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 14, 2015 presidential election in Nigeria.
In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, the institute said it was representing the “interest of Omano Edigheji, PhD, a Nigerian Citizen”.
Nsirimovu Courage, the Access to Justice Programme Officer who signed the application dated February 2, 2015, said the request was made “pursuant to S.2 and S.4 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011….”
Courage listed eight items requested as the title of Jonathan’s PhD dissertation; year of registration as a PhD student; title of the PhD thesis/dissertation; name of PhD supervisor(s); name of external examiner(s); comments/reports of external examiners on the dissertation/thesis; photocopy of the PhD dissertation/thesis; and date of graduation.
The institute said in the application: “We are willing to pay the amount for the photocopy and postage of this information. Please let us have your account details within one day of receipt of this request.
“We would be grateful if this request is granted within five working days upon receipt of same.”
The application was confirmed received by the Vice Chancellor’s office on February 3, 2015.
The media was awash with a story a few weeks ago that Jonathan did not complete his PhD as at 2006 when he appended the doctorate title to his name.
The allegation was made by one SegunObasanjo on his Twitter handle.
Though the person claimed to be former President Olusegun Obasanjo, The Eagle Online has since established that the former President does not have a Twitter account or is present on any of the social media.
