The Federal Road Safety Commission has advised motorists plying the Abaji-Lokoja highway to take alternative routes following a gridlock caused by a fallen truck on the road.
Susan Ajenge, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.
Ajenge said the gridlock resulted from an articulated vehicle which fell across the highway between Yangoji and Abaji.
She added that the command was making efforts to remove the obstruction.
She said that there was free flow of traffic in the city centre but noted that the heavy traffic at the entry points into the territory arose from increased security checks by the military.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that motorists coming through Nyanya, Zuba and other entry pointson Wednesday morning had difficulty getting into the city following the intensified security checks.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Jimoh Moshood, said that personnel had been adequately deployed to ensure security in and around the territory for the independence anniversary.
Moshood told NAN that the Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, directed all Area Commanders in the FCT to mobilise personnel to all strategic places, including recreation centres, to ensure that they were secure.
He also said that the commissioner had ordered intensified motorised patrol of the territory during the holiday.
NAN observed that the police were being complemented by soldiers at all strategic areas where they were deployed.
