A former Governor of Plateau State, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, has raised the alarm that there are underground plans by Governor Jonah David Jang and the leadership of state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party to impose the next governor on the people of the state.
Tapgun, who was the Campaign Director General of President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2011 election, was among those declared by the party’s leadership in Plateau State as impostors in the PDP and are being denied returning to the party.
Speaking on the matter, Tapgun said those being rejected in the group include former Governor Joshua Dariye and former Deputy Governor Pauline Tallen.
According to him, he has never had any problem with the PDP in Abuja.
He alleged that the state chapter of the PDP was acting on the instruction of Jang.
Tapgun said: “It is never a PDP decision not to receive us back into the party.
“The PDP at the national headquarters is fully aware of us as members but Governor Jang and the state leadership of the party do not want to see our faces because they are being intimidated by our influences in the state.”
According to him, it is the people that will decide in 2015 and that Governor Jang should desist from imposing the next governorship candidate on the people of the state.
He said those aggrieved have already drawn the attention of the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu,, adding: “We complained over last week’s congresses in the state where they just sat down and wrote the names of people they wanted, to make sure that they impose the next governor because it is the delegates that will decide on who will be the next governor, senator and all other offices.
“But we are optimistic that it is the Plateau State electorate that will finally decide who succeeds him in 2015 and not Governor Jang.”
