The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Olusola Odedeji, has said that all eyes are on the managers of the economy in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
So also did he call for the merger of some agencies of the Federal Government that are performing the same functions.
Odedeji made the call at the 9th Synod of the church on Friday.
He lamented at the synod, which took place at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church in Ikeja, Lagos State, that there are some ungodly practices in the Church, noting that false teachers have taken the centre stage of activities in many assemblies.
He compared states in Nigeria with the Biblical city of Ephesus.
According to him, the scenario in Ephesus was what informed Paul to write to Timothy to fight the food fight of faith.
Odedeji said: “Ephesus was like Lagos, Abuja that whatever is being sold will get customers.
“As a result of the increasing commercial activities in this place, many of the people became wealthy.
“Some placed their trust in their wealth.
“Paul then wrote to Timothy to advise believers not to rely on uncertain riches.
“They had wonderful infrastructure but they were idolaters.
“The pervasive pagan tradition made Paul warn Timothy to fight the good fight of faith.
“The church faced both internal and external opposition.
“Paul admonished Timothy to correct the teachings of false teachers.”
Odedeji also commented on the state of the nation at the Synod.
He called on the government to be sensitive to the yearnings of the people.
“While noting that some of the economic decisions of the government have a biting effect on Nigerians, he said: “All eyes are still on the managers of the nation’s economy.”
He called on the Federal Government to work towards reducing the cost of governance as that will greatly help to enhance the economy.

Some agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and Code of Conduct Bureau, according to him, are unnecessary duplication of efforts.
These agencies, according to him, should be merged to save cost.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, declared the synod open.
