The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, has said that the police hierarchy was set to enforce discipline and kick out corruption in the force.
Abubakar, who spoke on Tuesday in Maiduguri, Borno State, said his aim is to leave behind a police force that is disciplined and with incorruptible men and officers.
He said he was trying to build a people-friendly police and increase the confidence of the people in the personnel of the force.
He said: “You must have noticed few changes in the police.
“My approach as the Inspector General of Police is that we have to work with the people and you cannot have corrupt men and officers and still earn the confidence of the public we are working for.
“So, we are fighting corruption and that was why I ordered removal of checkpoints, which have been alleged to be sources of bribery and corruption in the Nigeria Police.
“We’re trying to build a peoples-friendly police.
“Our slogan is Operation Restore Hope, aimed at restoring the hope of the people in the Nigeria Police.”
