The Niger State Government on Wednesday said that the monthly allocation accruing to the state from the Federation Account and the current Internally Generated Revenue are not enough to implement the 2014 budget.
The Chairman, Niger Board of Internal Revenue, Mallam Hussain Muhammad, made the disclosure at the 2014 post-budget interactive forum for stakeholders, organised by the State Government in Minna.
Muhammad said the idea of automating the revenue system of the state is to make the tax payers develop confidence in the government.
According to him: “The process will boost internally generated revenue base of the state, which will ensure full implementation of our 2014 budget of N98.5 billion.
“As soon as they make the payments, we will receive them in our system.
“We have commenced computerising the external and internal revenue generation efforts in a bid to plugging wastage and ensuring accountability.”
Muhammad was however optimistic that government would utilise the tax payers’ money to provide their needs.
Also speaking, the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Ahmed Ibeto, said the government would minimise the cost of administration in order to meet its target of 2014 budget.
Earlier, Alhaji Yahaya Dansallau, the state Commissioner for Planning, said that the 2014 budget is aimed at providing and improving infrastructures that would have positive impact on the people of the state.
“Each of the 274 wards in the state will get N1 million every month for the execution of Ward Development Projects initiated by the people at ward level,” Dansallau said.
