The Confederation of African Football and Nigeria Football Federation have showered encomium on two-time African Footballer of the Year, Nwankwo Kanu, as he marks his 44th birthday on Saturday.
The continental body via its official Twitter handle: @CAF_Online, wrote: ”Legendary African footballer Nwankwo Kanu turns 44 today!
“The Nigerian is one of the continent’s greatest talents, dazzling fans all over the world throughout his career.”
In a similar vein, the Nigeria Football Federation also took to Twitter to honour the former Super Eagles skipper.
The NFF tweeted: “Happy birthday to two time Africa Player of the year and Nigeria football legend, @papilokanu.
“Have a good one Papilo.”
The erstwhile Arsenal of England star on Twitter appreciated God for sparring his life and of his family.
He tweeted: “I thank God for today. Happy birthday to me and happy new month to you all.
“Thank God for my family and thank God for Kanu Heart Foundation.”
Kanu was a member of the Nigerian national team from 1994 to 2010, making his debut in friendly against Sweden.
He participated in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups.
On June 24, 2010, Kanu ended his international career following Nigeria’s exit from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after winning 86 caps, scoring 13 goals.
