No fewer than seven persons, made up of five adults and two children, have died in an accident involving the convoy of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The accident, according to available information, occurred on Saturday near Ehor village along the Benin-Ekpoma Expressway.
The accident was said to be an head-on collision between a Toyota Hilux van in the convoy of Obaseki and an Audi 80 car in which the victims were riding.
The Hilux van was said to be occupied by Protocol Officers of the Edo State Government House.
They were part of the advanced team of Obaseki and were heading to Ekpoma, headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of the state, for the convocation ceremony of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anthony Oko, confirmed the development.
Oko said the two children died on their way to the hospital, adding that all occupants of the Audi car died, while driver of the Hilux van sustained injuries.
He attributed the cause of the accident to loss of control by the driver of the Audi car.
