DSTV Basketball: Union Bank are champions of Atlantic Conference

Coach Chris Okoh of Union Bank of Lagos State has described the emergence of his team as champions of the 2013 DSTV Basketball League as phenomenal, praising his players and the management for their role.
Union Bank on Friday defeated Customs of Lagos 68-61 to become the Atlantic Conference regular seasons champions.
They finished the season with 48 points from the 28 games played to unseat the 2012 regular seasons’ champions, Dodan Warriors, to second position with 47 points.
Okoh told NAN that it was a tough season for them since the competition started on April 26 and their triumph had proved the hard work they put into the season.
Okoh said: “We are proud of our achievement.
“We believe in ourselves and we worked very hard to end at the top of the league.
“However, we cannot rely on that for now and be relaxed because the final four, which would be next, is of more importance and victory there will crown our efforts.”
The Union Bank Club Chairman, Emeka Anumenechi, described the achievement as refreshing and thanked other members of the management for their moral and financial support.
Anumenechi said: “We had a very good season.
“We are champions today because we worked very hard for it.
“We thank our sponsors for the key role they played in all of this.
“We will not relax because the final four is our next target and this we want so badly.”
NAN reports that the first four teams in the conference qualify for a final four competition which dunks off on August 6.
With two matches to go, the third and fourth placed teams are currently being contested among the Lagos Islanders, Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan and the Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt.
