The Joint Task Force on Sunday said it has recovered the corpses of its four personnel, including the lieutenant-colonel, shot dead by pirates last Thursday, on Eweleso River, in Bayelsa State.
Also, according to a statement by the JTF, the suspected mastermind of the killing of the military personnel, Shedrack Itokofuwei, popularly known as Mammy Water, who hails from Azagbene, in Southern Ijaw Local Government, has been killed in a gun duel with a naval patrol team.
A statement by the spokesperson of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Antigha, said: “JTF has recovered the remains of the four military personnel attacked on 1st March 2012, along Eweleso River in Bayelsa State. It has also figured out the events surrounding the incident.”
Antigha added in the statement: “It is instructive to note that Mammy Water and his gang were the criminals behind the series of pirate attacks within the Nigerian territorial waters in the last three months.”
