A retired Anglican Bishop of Akure, Rt. Rev. Bolanle Gbonigi, on Thursday said developed countries have been adding to Nigeria’s problems and pretending to be its friend.
]Gbonigi told the News Agency of Nigeria that they caused troubles in the country by colluding with Nigerians in the acts of terrorism and economic degradation.
He said: “They add to our problems.
“They collude with Nigerians to cause trouble in this country, to loot our treasury, to destroy our economy, including terrorism and insecurity in the country.
“We should tell them that they are not our friends but our enemies.”
The retired bishop also accused some politicians and civil servants of fraudulently enriching themselves at the expense of the people when millions of the youth and graduates were unemployed nationwide.
He said the problems of joblessness, greed and insensitivity to the plight of the people by some in government posed a big danger to the sustainability of democracy and unity of the country.
The cleric said that it was God’s love and power that had sustained us as a nation till now and prayed that He would continue to sustain the country.
Gbonigi, however, called on the government to address the problems to avoid escalation.
He urged the citizens to cooperate with the government in its efforts at providing solutions to the nation’s socio-political and economic challenges.
