The General Overseer of Open Channels Bible Church, Pastor Darlington Ajitemisan, has advised the government to do a background check on vice chancellors and lecturers of tertiary institutions in order to curb cultism.
Speaking with journalists at the church headquarters in Gowon Estate, Lagos, Pastor Darlington said cult members in tertiary institutions are sponsored by lecturers and vice chancellors.
According to him, cultists were initiated by lecturers and vice chancellors, who were supposed to mould the students.
His words: “If you want to break cultism fundamentally, it is from the lecturers and the professors.
“I was once a cultist right from secondary school to the university.
“So when I say they should be checked, I know what I’m saying.”
Pastor Darlington added that the Federal Government should plant private investigators that can secretly carry out investigations on lecturers and vice chancellors.
He said: “When this is done, you will be surprised at the rate at which cultism will be reduced in our tertiary institutions.
“There should be talks and seminars too to sensitize these lecturers and VCs.
“Through this, they get re-oriented and know the consequences of their actions.
“If you don’t want a child to do something, tell him or her the consequences of his or her actions.”
