The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullai Bello, has been sworn-in by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Nasir A. Ajanah, as the acting governor.
The Eagle Online learnt that Bello was sworn-in amid tight security at the State High Court Complex, Lokoja, the state capital.
It was learnt at press time that Bello was on his way to the Government House to take charge.
Sources, however, said that the former Governor who was sacked this morning from office by a ruling of the Supreme Court, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has refused to vacate the Government House.
It was learnt that as at press time, Idris was still in the Government House though sources said he had evacuated all his personal belonging from there.
When asked what will happen when Bello gets there, the source said that the acting governor now has the mandate to rule and as such could order for the forceful ejection of Idris.
Said the source: “Because of the way the people around here have carried on, the acting governor has been given all the security he requires to carry out his duties.
“I don’t see Idris resisting moving out of the Government House once the acting governor gets there.
“In fact, as I speak with you now, the acting governor is on his way to the Government House.
“And unfortunately for Idris, all his security details have been withdrawn since he is no longer in office.”
It was also gathered that after news got to the Government House that Bello had been sworn-in, Captain Idris Wada, who earlier laid claim to the governorship seat of the state has fled from the Government House where he was with Idris.
Wada, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state and winner of the last gubernatorial election in the state, rep[ortedly left the Government House in a Prado Jeep, accompanied by a Hilux van.
All the security details earlier assigned to him after his inauguration by the President of the Customary Court of the state, Ibrahim Shaibu, had been withdrawn.
His whereabouts as at press time could not be confirmed.
