The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Friday flagged-off another road project, the dualisation of Kulende-University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital-Oke-Ose Road, Ilorin as part of the ongoing infrastructure development projects under the newly established Kwara Infrastructure Development Fund.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmed said the 9km road, with a completion period of 18 months and awarded at a contract sum of N2.3 billion, is part of his administration’s commitment to provide infrastructure development in order to boost commercial activities across the state.
The governor, who called on the Federal Government to refund monies expended by the state on federal roads, said his administration will not delay compensating the affected property owners.
According to him: “We will ensure that this project and others across the state are executed in accordance with the design specifications and programme of work.
“Government will not relent in ensuring that all roads across the length and breadth of the state are made motorable.
“Indeed, the Kwara State Infrastructure Development Fund provides a strong guarantee that this project, the Geri Alimi Split Diamond Interchange and other ongoing as well as new projects will be funded to completion within the life span of this administration.”
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahya, explained that government embarked on the project in order to reduce the inconveniences being experienced by commuters and motorists plying the route.
Yahya urged the contractor and consultant handling the project to justify the confidence reposed in them by the state government and deliver quality job.
Other ongoing projects inspected by Governor Ahmed were the GSS Fate Shopping Complex and the Hub Offices and Shopping Mall at Fate Road, as well as Oke-Adinni-Taoheed, Basin Road and the Kwara State Television at Apata Yakuba, where he expressed satisfaction with the levels of work done by the contractors.
