Rangers International FC of Enugu Media Manager, Foster Chime, says the team has invited three additional foreign players for trial ahead of its 2016/2017 Confederation African Football Champions League campaign.
Chime told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Monday that the team had invited six foreign players in all to its ongoing pre-season camp in Benin, Edo State.
He said that the additional foreign players would add bite to the team as it prepared for a schedule-loaded 2016/2017 football season.
According to him, the fresh legs of foreign players are part of the initiatives to solidify Rangers ahead of the 2016/2017 CAF Champions League as well as other football tournaments in the 2016/2017 season.
Chime said: “Any of the foreign players who have what the team needs by the assessment of the technical coaching crew, would likely make the team.
“This also means that those co-opted would be signed as our players at the end of the day.”
Chime said that Rangers’ ongoing pre-season camp had entered its 20th day and that the pre-season camp would close on December 4.
He said that the Flying Antelopes were expected back to Enugu on December 5 ahead of the commencement of the Super-4 Tournament on December 7 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
He also said that after the Super-4 Tournament in Enugu on December 12, some top official of the team would be travelling to Egypt for the 2016/2017 CAF Champions League draw.
He said: “After the draw, matches in the CAF Champions League will commence in January 2017 and we might play our first continental match in the 2nd week of January.”
NAN reports that the club will also defend its 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League title and participate in the 2016/2017 Federation Cup.
