Tottenham midfielder, Dele Alli, has been charged with violent conduct, the Football Association has announced.
Alli’s charge relates to an incident with West Brom’s Claudio Yacob, in which the 20-year-old appeared to punch his opponent in the stomach during Monday’s 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.
If found guilty, Alli could face a three-match suspension.
He has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge.
Meanwhile, the youngster has told close friends that he was provoked into punching the West Bromwich Albion midfielder.
The 20-year-old escaped punishment during the game but replays clearly show Alli punching the Argentine in the stomach as tensions boiled over with Tottenham’s title chances fading quickly.
Alli has created 55 chances this season for Spurs.
Alli has been sensational for Spurs this season, earning a regular spot in England’s senior side and even winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the weekend.
