Rangers International FC of Enugu was on Monday rewarded by a philanthropist, Benson Ejindu, with N1.150 million for beating Akwa United FC of Uyo 3-0 on Sunday.
Ejindu, a businessman based in the US, promised to reward the Flying Antelopes with N50,000 for each goal scored and N1 million for a win.
While redeeming his pledged in Enugu, Ejindu said he was happy to reward the players and the coaches for the job well done.
He said: “As a Rangers fan since I was six years, I am happy to watch Rangers doing well again after so many years without a trophy.
“I wish to let you know that Rangers had been a household name in Nigeria football and that is what I will want you to keep intact.
“Besides, it pleases me to let you know that Ex-Rangers International Football Association in the US has more plans for this club.”
Ejindu said the association was inaugurated in 2014 and had come to stay with a lot of objectives to better the life of Rangers players, both present and former.
The philanthropist said the association would leave no stone unturned to see that Rangers returned to its past glorious days.
“I am using this medium to challenge others who have benefited from Rangers and Enugu as a whole to give back to their root,” he said.
Ejindu urged the players to stick together throughout the season for better things ahead as they would have much benefit if they did well till the end of the league.
The club’s General Manager, Paul Chibuzo, thanked Ejindu and promised that the club would reciprocate his efforts by growing to rule Africa.
Chibuzo urged the players to keep playing for each other with determination in the remaining matches of the season.
Chibuzo thanked the coaches and players for their good job so far in the league and appreciated the supporters for their massive support.
