The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service on Saturday
arrested more than 400 suspected illegal immigrants in Kano
metropolis.
The Controller of Immigration in the state, Alhaji Hamisu Maishanu,
told newsmen at a briefing in Kano that all those arrested would be
screened and those without relevant documents would be repatriated to
their countries.
Maishanu said the exercise would continue to ensure that all illegal
immigrants were flushed out of the country.
He said: “This is a mop up exercise of illegal immigrants to complement what the Federal Government is doing in the states
currently under emergency rule.
“We will take the photographs and biometric data of all those arrested so that we can identify them if they return into the country again.”
Maishanu said, however, that any repatriated person, who returned
without proper documents, would be arrested and prosecuted.
He said the exercise would be extended to the 44 local government
areas of the state.
Maishanu advised the people not to panic on seeing security men on
patrol as the exercise was meant to ensure security of lives and
property.
