The immediate past Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget and Development Partners in Anambra State Mike Okoye, has declared his intention to contest for Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency.
Okoye declared his intention during a meeting with members of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ifitedunu Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 3 in Dunukofia Local Government Area Tuesday.
He also gave the constituents the scorecard of his sojourn to Anambra Government House where he served for consecutive 10 years as Special Adviser and Commissioner in the administrations of Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.
Okoye, whose aspiration was greeted with rousing approval, said he came to seek the support and blessing as he began a new chapter in his political career.
He thanked the people of Dunukofia and other Local governments in the Federal Constituency for their performance during the previous gubernatorial elections, assuring that he would not betray their trust.
“My journey thus far has been driven by the support of the people and I do not take this support for granted.
“My ambition is solely focused on bringing quality representation to the people and extending the APGA agenda to the federal level,” he said.
Okoye said his aspiration to the Federal House of Representatives would be a bigger and better platform to continue his service to Anambra and the Governor Charles Soludo’s administration.
According to him, having had the privilege of working on the ‘Soludo Solution’ Agenda with the Governor, it was evident that his plan would require significant resources and support to effectively implement his vision.
“I am offering myself to be the voice that champions the Anambra agenda in the green chambers,” he said.
In a remark, an APGA Youth Leader in the state Chike Odoji, said he was confident that Okoye would do well and should be supported.
Odoji said Okoye was the best among the aspirants who had indicated interest for the constituency in the National Assembly and that his candidature would give APGA superior advantage at the polls.
Other stakeholders of the party in Dunukofia spoke glowingly of Okoye’s political asset and the need to send him to Abuja in the interest of development and progress of the constituency.
