2019: Anambra community endorses Umeh for second tenure

The Amansea community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra has promised to vote massively for Senator Victor Umeh, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Anambra Central Senatorial District.
The community made the promise on Tuesday, when Umeh, who is running for a second tenure, came to the community to solicit their votes, ahead of the polls.
The lawmaker was received by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Kenneth Okonkwo, APGA chieftains and supporters at the Eziogbo Primary School, venue of the campaign rally.
Addressing the crowd, Umeh said that he would continue to champion the cause of Ndigbo at the National Assembly, if re-elected.
He said that he had made substantial impact in the life of his constituents, within his 10-month stay in the Senate.
He listed the award of scholarship to 70 students, donation of 31 tricycles to unemployed graduates and sponsorship for the training of 151 youths, as some of his achievements.
He expressed happiness over the large turnout of the people to the event and promised that he would not disappoint them, if given their mandate.
Umeh, who received similar endorsement at Ebenebe, Isuanocha, Achalla, Amanuke and Urum communities of Awka North Local Government Area, further urged the people to vote massively for all the APGA candidates during the polls.
In a brief remark, a member of the state House of Assembly, Boniface Okonkwo, representing Awka North constituency, commended Umeh for using his empowerment programmes to provide succour to widows and youths in the area.
Okonkwo also lauded Umeh for his “transparent and courageous representation” of Ndigbo at the National Assembly and urged him to sustain the tempo.
He said that Umeh’s performance in the Senate, especially in attracting projects to the communities and providing humanitarian support to the disadvantaged, had further endeared APGA and its candidates to the people of the area.
He said: “We can testify to the construction of roads, markets, boreholes and electricity, among others, in our community.
He said that the projects were made possible by Umeh and the APGA-led government of Governor Willie Obiano.
He said: “For us in Amansea, we assure you of our massive votes.”
News Agency of Nigeria reports that an indigent widow, Rebecca Ubia, presented some food items, including garri, palm oil and plantain, to Umeh at the event.
Ubia said the gesture was in appreciation for the scholarship he offered to her daughter, Mary-Jane, who is studying Igbo and Asian Studies at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Also at the rally, Umeh announced the award of a scholarship to one Emmanuel Okpe, a student of Statistics at the same institution, who made and presented him a life-size artistic image of him.
