The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has reiterated that the laws guiding the operations of the Nigeria Police Force in the forthcoming 2015 general elections would solely be drawn from the Nigerian constitution, the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission and lessons learnt from previous elections held in the country.
This came to limelight Monday when Abba received the Commonwealth Election Monitoring Team in his office.
The team was led by its Adviser and Head of Electoral Support Political Division, Martin Kasirye, to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
While welcoming the team, Abba assured the Committee of the Force’s preparedness through continuous training and re-training of its personnel to ensure a hitch-free general election in 2015.
Kasirye, while intimating the IGP of an invitation by INEC to the Commonwealth to serve as observers during the upcoming elections, stated that the purpose of the Committee’s visit is to assess the Force’s level of preparedness to provide adequate security throughout the election period.
