$12.4b oil windfall: Judge, again, postpones judgment as AGF files another suit

For the seventh time, the Judge handling the case instituted by civil society groups seeking the release of the report of the Pius Okadigbo committee on the spending of the $12.4 billion Gulf War oil windfall, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, on Friday postponed the delivery of judgment.
Defendants in the case are the Attorney General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The postponement, according to Justice Kolawole was because the judgment was not ready and owing to another suit instituted by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, seeking to stop the judgment.
Kolawole, who had been absent a few times in the past on days he gave to deliver ruling, said: “I am sorry that the judgement is not yet ready.
“I have to give priority to other serious criminal cases, which are very important.
“I have a backlog of judgements, which are older than this case.
“I regret the delay.
“Besides, the AGF, on Monday, filed a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the Court to entertain the suit.
“I will have to look at their arguments and also look at the reply from the plaintiff’s counsel.”
Nigeria realised the extra income during the regime of former military President Ibrahim Babangida.
