A 31-year-old bus driver, Muniru Oladejo, was on Monday docked before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, charged with assaulting a policeman by biting one of his fingers.
Oladejo, who resides at 30, Isoga Street, Alaba, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault.
The prosecutor, Corporal Gbenga Salami, told the court that the accused, on November 1 on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, by Alaba, assaulted one Corporal Chikaodiri Obi.
Salami said that the accused flagged down a motorcycle rider and the Corporal, who was nearby, attempted to arrest the motorcyclist for plying an unauthorised route.
He said that the accused struggled with the corporal and, in the process, bit him on one of his fingers.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
If found guilty, the accused could be imprisoned for three years.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, F.B. Lawal, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.
Lawal adjourned the case to December 16 for mention.
