The Chairman of the Traditional Council of Chiefs in Plateau State, His Royal Highness, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, has called on traditional rulers to step up efforts and work closely with their subjects towards peace building in the state.
Buba disclosed this during the submission of a memorandum on the creation of chiefdoms in the state.
He encouraged citizens’ synergy with the traditional council in the area of peace so as to ensure that Plateau State regains its lost glory.
He said: “We have resolved we are going to partner with government devoid of any rancour.
“Sincerely, we are tired of insecurity.
“We appeal that we should not place sentiment or politicize security with human lives.
“I had the cause some couple of years back then to address some of the challenges as the Gbong Gwom.
“I cannot just go to my community and grab their land and convert my people’s property.”
Buba however urged the traditional council to remain neutral in the affairs of districts and chiefdoms because there are ruling houses and kings makers in their tradition.
He said: “We were not Christians or Muslims.
“We all practiced traditional religions before accepting the two religions and the culture, tradition of our society before the British brought us together.
“Tribal nationalities are older than our country.
“We fought tribal war before the colonial administration came on board to cut away undue challenges.”
Buba appealed to sons and daughters who are in government ensure partnership with the traditional council right from village heads and take information that will help the government find solutions to land disputes.
The Chairman of the committee, Luka Fompun, urged the people to submit memorandum on the creation of districts and chiefdoms.
A total of 2,004 memos have received by the committee.
Hon. Bitrus Doro, the Management Committee Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, thanked Fompun for recognizing every community.
Doro said this is critical in the socio-cultural development of the people.
