President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said the Federal Government would ensure that the vast agricultural potentials in Taraba State were harnessed.
Jonathan said this in Jalingo when the presidential campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Tafida, ahead of the February 14 election.
The President said if re-elected, his government would ensure that the state’s vast land was harnessed for commercial rice farming.
Jonathan said micro-credit facilities and other farm inputs would be provided to farmers to boost their production capacity.
He also said his government would make agriculture attractive so that young graduates could be attracted to the sector to earn a living.
“Agriculture is our heritage, therefore, we should be proud of being farmers,” Jonathan said.
Responding, Tafida, described Jonathan as an experienced leader, having been in the corridors of power for some time.
He advised Jonathan to ensure that a sustainable environment was created for the conduct of free and fair elections in the country.
Tafida also appealed to the President to ensure that a bridge was built across River Lau to solve the problem of transportation in the area.
Earlier, the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, had said they were at the palace to solicit for prayers and support from the emir.
