Mourners at a wake keeping on Monday were said to have bolted after a young man suddenly collapsed and vomited blood.
The incident occurred in Irrua area of Edo State.
It was discovered that the man had just returned from Port Harcourt where Ebola case was reported recently.
The suspected young man later died as he was being rushed to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in the Central Senatorial District of the state.
Agitated relations and friends of the deceased immediately began sending messages to their loved ones on the scare even as mourners at the burial ceremonies abandoned the proceedings for safety after the deceased vomited blood.
But a doctor who had attended to the deceased later confirmed that the victim was a regular patient of his and suffered from cirrhosis and was advised to stop excessive ingestion of alcohol drinks.
A close family source said: “We were scared initially because he came from Port Harcourt and was vomiting blood before the doctor who I personally met, gave me his medical record.”
Meanwhile, the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, which serves as one of the screening centres in the country has said there was no testing facility available for Ebola treatment.
It was also learnt that the machine at the hospital has been moved to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lousi Odion, who was contacted on the matter yesterday, denied any Ebola scare in the state.
“I spoke to the Doctor in charge of disease control, and he did not say anything of such, it is just rumour and people should dispel it,” said Odion.
