The Senate President, David Mark, has assured Nigerians that both himself and the Peoples Democratic Party were committed to ensure a successful and violence-free election in 2015.
Mark added he was ready to join hands with critical stakeholders to ensure fair and credible elections in 2015.
Senator Mark said this on Thursday in Jos, Plateau State during the Plateau North Senatorial District Constituency Empowerment and Development programme organized to mark Senator Gyang Pwajok’s second year in the National Assembly.
Addressing the beneficiaries at the Polo Field, the Senate president urged them to continue to support Senator Pwajok and for whatever position he is contesting in next year’s elections.
He said: “The Peoples Democratic Party is committed to free, fair and credible elections.
“I am in support of any stakeholder who is working for a peaceful election.
“Let me also urge those who may lose in the context not to use the election as a battlefield.
“Election is not war.
“We must all join hands to ensure a successful election.
“Senator Pwajok is one of the youngest senators who is making robust contributions in the Senate.
“It is a thing of joy that he is giving back to his constituency who stood by him.
“You must reciprocate the gesture by supporting him in whatever position he seeks in 2015.”
Pwajok, who replaced late Senator Gyang Dantong, showed appreciation to his constituency by donating empowerment items worth N150 million.
Over 1,000 women, youths and the handicapped in the constituency benefitted.
Among the items given to beneficiaries from Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Bassa Local Government Areas that make up the Northern Senatorial District were large and small grinding machines, sewing machines, tricycles, blocks moulders, hair dressing kits, barbing kits, irrigation water pumps, wheel chairs, vehicles and computer sets.
Recounting his contributions in the National Assembly, Senator Pwajok appreciated his constituents, saying they have been the foundation for the successful two years in the Senate.
According to him: “It has been a journey characterized by our collective efforts.
“We must realize that we are each other’s brother’s keeper regardless of what is propagated to disunite us.”
Pwajok assured them that the event marks the beginning of another phase of empowerment and urged them to put the items to good use so that they would have a better and brighter future.
