Yobe shuts schools over massacre of 29 students

The Yobe State Government has announced the immediate closure of all schools in the state following the massacre of 29 students and a teacher at the Government Secondary School in Mamudo, Potiskum Local Government Area of the State.
The state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, announced this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdullahi Bego.
Gaidam said the decision was the best way of protecting the students and teachers from attacks.
The schools are to remain shut until September when a new academic session will begin.
The statement said in part: “The measure is to allow the state government in collaboration with the Joint Security Task Force and community leaders to evaluate and evolve better and additional strategies that would ensure the safety and security of students and their teachers.”
