Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria on Tuesday applauded the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for boosting the Nigerian economy through security on the waterways.
Ifeanyi Mazeli, President of MWUN, Nigerian Port Authority Branch, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
He said that the present administration has done well in certain sectors like transportation, noting that the security on the waterways was commendable.
According to him, there is less accident and piracy on the waterways simply because the government has beef up security in that area, making the waterways very safe.
Mazeli said: “The activities of the Federal Government in the transport sector is excellently commendable, one thing is that we cannot have it all, the union is not an opposition party, we are partners in progress.
“So, when we see the areas that the government has done well, we will surely applaud them, when we see where they have not done well, we will call their attention through dialogue and normal consultation.
“I must give kudos to the Managing Director of NPA, she has been doing excellently well, a woman that has made up to N118 billion profit, honestly in a secure environment business can thrives.
“Irrespective of the situation in the country, that aspect is what should be explored, the sector is really thriving and Nigerians should take advantage of the waterways to boost its economy.’’
He said that the government should make provision for a more viable and peaceful society, where business can thrive, stating that business can only thrived in a secured environment.
