Why Buhari declined to assent to Peace Corps bill

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined assent to Peace Corps bill forwarded to him by the National Assembly.
Buhari stated the reasons in a letter sent to National Assembly.
He said funding among other reasons led to his rejection of the bill to give legal teeth to the Corps.
Reports before now had it that the President also said there was no need for such an outfit in the country.
The bill was sent to President Buhari in the last week of December 2017 by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Omolori.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria has been operating without legal backing, leading to the sealing of its national and state secretariats by the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services.
The Commandant of the Corps, Dickson Akoh, was among those who dragged the police to court for the sealing of its secretariat.
Akoh and other officers of the Corps had also been arrested in the past for running an illegal outfit.
