The Department of State Security Services has denied arresting a former Governor of Kano State between 2003 and 2011 and presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2011 election, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.
However, the SSS said it interacted with him for about three hours over his alleged involvement in the sponsorship of Boko Haram.
This was based on an allegation that Shekarau was funding the group with N10 million monthly.
African Independent Television first reported the news that was denied by Shekarau’s spokesman, Suke Ya’u.
But the spokeswoman of the SSS, Marylyn Ogar, confirmed that Shekarau was indeed invited by the agency.
Ogar, however, said it was just for an “interaction” for about three hours.
But Ya’u, in a telephone interview with The Eagle Online, said there was no truth in the story.
He said Shekarau was not even questioned by the SSS over any issue.
Ya’u added: “This must be the handiwork of his political opponents.
“Remember that we had to issue a rejoinder to something in the press today.
“This is another way of getting to him.
“But the fact remains that they won’t succeed.”
Ya’u said that Shekarau was already in his house in Kano and was granting an interview to AIT when The Eagle Online called.
