The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, Barrister Ekpo Nta, has said the war against corruption had started gaining momentum as more Nigerians were enlisting in it.
Nta attributed the development to the anti-corruption disposition of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the President had been leading by example.
He said this while featuring on a current affairs programme of the Nigerian Television Authority, Issues Of The Moment.
He expressed delight that the anti-corruption war was already in the right direction in Nigeria.
The ICPC boss said even the international community had started reckoning with the anti-corruption drive of the Nigerian government.
Nta said the seriousness with which the war was being fought in Nigeria had been eliciting responses from countries which he stressed had been promising to offer assistance to Nigeria on fight against corruption.
He said the fight against corruption had also started generating interest from the grassroots in Nigeria, with people willingly been reporting people they suspected as living above their means.
He recalled that hitherto the people at the grassroots had been hostile to operatives of the ICPC who he said were always being attacked each time they attempted to make arrests.
He said ICPC had taken preventive measures towards advancing the cause of the fight against corruption, alluding to the launching of the National Values Curriculum in schools.
The project is to inculcate ethics in students at primary and secondary schools.
Nta said: “It is in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council.”
