A US passenger train on Monday derailed in the north-western state of Washington, with images from the scene showing a train car dangling off a bridge onto an interstate highway near the city of Tacoma.
“Injuries and causalities have been reported,” the Pierce County sheriff said on Twitter without providing numbers.
US railway Amtrak confirmed there had been “an incident involving Amtrak train 501”, but provided no further details.
State transportation officials told newsmen that the accident was blocking traffic on Interstate 5, a major thoroughfare along the coast connecting the state’s major cities.
