Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Wednesday approved the appointment of Prof. Obafemi Ajibola as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the state university.
Ajibola was until his appointment a member of the council.
A statement in Osogbo said the appointment of the council chairman followed the resignation of Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a crisis between the council headed by Olawoyin and the university management, led by the sacked Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashir Okesina, triggered the setting up of a visitation panel by the governor.
The panel was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola.
The panel recommended among others the termination of appointments of principal officers of the university – Okesina; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso; the Registrar, Dr. Julius Faniran; and the Bursar, Bayo Lasisi.
It also recommended the dissolution of the Governing Council.
