The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has been unanimously elected Chairman of the Association of West African Universities.
A bulletin issued on Monday by the University of Ilorin, said the election was one of the highlights of the 4th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association.
The bulletin said the conference was held at the Universite Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
AWAU is a sub-regional body established to coordinate and promote the ideals of University education in West Africa.
It was established to strengthen and develop the capacity of the leadership in
Universities in West Africa to address the challenges confronting the region.
The association, in collaboration with the African Union and other related bodies, creates platform for dialogue, bilateral and multilateral linkages among the leadership of Universities in the sub-continent through regular meetings.
