UniJos requires N40m for establishment of new faculties

The University of Jos, Plateau State is to spend over N40 million for the establishment of new faculties to commence academic activities in October.
The vice chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Hayward Babale Mafuyai, told journalists on Tuesday at a news conference that plan has reached advanced level to establish new faculties in veterinary medicine, engineering, agriculture and other programmes scheduled to take-off in October 2014, with world class facilities.
Mafuyai said an endowment fund raising ceremony is also slated to hold over the weekend to raise funds to meet up with the requirements of the National Universities Commission and the various professional bodies in the country.
According to Mafuyai, the programmes are expected to play key roles in the effort to significantly improve the lives of the average Nigerian, especially those within the university’s catchment area.
He said: “When fully completed, the faculties would address the problem of 1.6 million candidates seeking for university education admission to the teaming populace.”
He however, appealed to the federal and state governments and well spirited individuals to support the programme.
