Umahi’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, noted that this was the fourth consecutive time the Governor has won the award.
Uzor explained that Umahi, according to the records, beat 35 other governors to clinch the prestigious award.
In a letter signed by the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of New Telegraph Newspaper, Funke Egbemode, it was stated that Umahi was chosen because of his agricultural policies, which have revolutionalised rice and cassava productions in the state, among others.
The letter reads in part: “The state in our opinion is one of the few states with the privilege of being run by a highly focused visionary leader who from day one has zeroed in on improving critical areas of socio-economic development platforms necessary to attract international and local investors to fast track economic development.
“The Ebonyi rice revolution, the revamping and expansion of the Ebonyi state fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited to the unrivalled ingenuity at marking Ebonyi a prospective business hub, thereby contributing immensely to the  nation’s economic development…
“After a thorough study and scrutiny of Your Excellency’s achievements and activities, the panel of judges and editors in New Telegraph are pleased with your achievements and hereby award Your Excellency as the Governor of the Year for Achievement in Agriculture, 2018.”
The New Telegraph, one of the leading national tabloids in the country, has slated November 17, 2018 to officially confer the award with all its paraphernalia on Governor Umahi at a grand event scheduled to hold in Lagos.
Recall that the Governor, last week, bagged the highly coveted Award of Mayor for World Peace from the United Nations Peace and Positive living Awareness Centre
The award was given based on his tremendous contributions towards securing peaceful coexistence within and across the borders of Ebonyi State in particular and Nigeria in general.
