Two persons were killed in an auto crash involving to vehicles at Nawfia on Awka-Enugu Expressway Monday.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Monday.
Irelewuyi said the accident, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m., could be attributed to wrongful overtaking.
“The fatal crash involved a black Mercedes 911 truck with registration number AH 367 UWN and a private Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number ACA688PX
“An eyewitness report indicates that the driver of the Highlander heading towards Enugu, overtook wrongfully and almost had a head-on with the truck heading toward Onitsha in the opposite direction.
“The truck driver while trying to avoid the SUV veered off the road and fell on its side with two of his passengers trapped under the truck.
“Four adults were involved in the crash. The two passengers trapped under the truck have been confirmed dead.
“As at the time of filling this report, the deceased are still trapped under the fallen truck.
“Efforts are being made by the FRSC to remove the trapped bodies and clear the obstruction caused,’’ Irelewuyi said.
The sector Commander has condoled with the families of the dead and urged drivers to avoid wrongful overtaking.
