No fewer than two persons died in Igbara-Odo, Ekiti South West Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Friday when youths in the town went on rampage.
The grievance of the youths was that the town’s monarch, the Arajaka of Igbara-Odo, has refused to give account of the fund raised during the celebration of the community in 2016.
Operating under the aegis of Federation of Igbara-odo Students Union, which comprises of current students and old students of the community, the youths had early on Friday distributed some pamphlets to residents on the issue.
Apart from seeking to know how the fund was spent, the youths demanded that a new generation bank, which was about to vacate the town, be asked to stay and also for a Police College speculated to be coming to the town.
After distributing the pamphlets, the youths made for the palace of the monarch, vandalizing everything in sight, including vehicles and buildings.
The Divisional Police Officer in the town was also attacked.
BY the time the dust of the crisis settled, no fewer than two persons were reportedly killed.
One of them was said to be a policeman.
The State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Chafe; and other top security chiefs visited the town at about 6pm.
Fayose vowed to get to the root of the problem and imposed a two-day curfew on the town.
The curfew is to last from 7pm to 6am.
Fayose said: ”This is a very bad development.
“It is a big shame on the community.
“I am assuring you that we will get to the root of this matter and ensure that the perpetrators are dealt with.”
