Troops of the Nigerian Army on Friday intercepted four suicide bombers on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The suicide bombers were intercepted at about 4am by troops of the 101 Battalion of 7 Division.
The suicide bombers were said to be heading to Maiduguri, where they were to carry out their attack, from Sambisa forest through the Cashew Plantation.
The troops were said to have responded decisively by intercepting and neutralizing two of the suspected terrorists at Madiyari village, while the third suicide bomber was intercepted and neutralized at Jimini-Bolori village.
The Nigerian Army said unfortunately, three soldiers sustained injuries in the process and they have been evacuated to the unit’s Regimental Aid Post for treatment.
The two unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices on the suicide bombers were safely detonated by a combined team of Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army Explosive Ordinance Device experts.
In a related development, the troops also arrested three suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Nwagafete village.
They were made up of two women and a 16-year-old boy.
The three were said to be connected to suspected terrorists’ food vendors earlier arrested.
