Tribunal grants Maku right to inspect election materials

Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has been granted rights to inspect all the governorship election materials, that is both sensitive and non-sensitive, in the last election in Nasarawa State.

Maku, who contested the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and came second behind the reelected incumbent, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura, approached the elections petitions tribunal challenging the result of the election.

Presenting his submissions on why the inspection of the electoral materials are so important to them, the counsel to Maku, Barrister Stephen Maikenti, opined that the inspection of election materials will afford them an opportunity to know the level of electoral fraud committed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission during the election.

INEC had declared Almakura as the winner of April 11, 2015.

Maikenti told journalists that as soon as the inspection of the materials used in Lafia Local Government Area is completed, the itinerary will be made known to the public as to how many days they will be able to accomplish the inspection.

INEC has obeyed the tribunal’s order for lawyers of Maku to inspects the election materials.

Speaking on the development so far, Maku expressed delight with the management of INEC for obeying the tribunal’s order to inspect all the electoral materials used for the governorship election in 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State.
